FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents and Guardians,                                                                          February3, 2012

Themonths following the holiday season are very productive and the Holtzmanstudents have shown a great deal of growth. Our continual review of the progress our students have made over the lastfive months is encouraging, and as a staff, we have projected new goals forstudent achievement for the next four months and the end of the academic schoolyear.

 As spring approaches, it is also time to startthinking about PSSA exams.  TheDepartment of Education has scheduled the testing windows for testing beginningin mid-March through April.  All HoltzmanElementary students will take the Reading and Math exams beginning March 12^th. Fifth graders will take the PSSA writingexam during the week of April 16^th, and finally, 4^thgrade students will take the Science PSSA exam the week of April 23^rd.  Specific schedules will be provided to youdirectly as the time for the assessment nears. As always, it is important to establish good habits of rest the nightbefore school, in addition to a good breakfast in the morning.  Finally, please be sure to plan out-of-schooltrips around the testing dates as test make-ups always create a challenge forthe school and most of all, the students. 

Eventsfor the month of February include our Valentine’s Day parties on Friday,February 10^th, and schools will be closed in observance of the Presidents’Day Holiday on Monday, February 20^th.  Spring picture retakes are scheduled for Friday,February 10^th as well.
