    POLICY

SUMMER SCHOOL AND TUTORING FOR CREDIT

A student who has failed a subject will be permitted to attend summer school or to be tutored for credit, if pre-approval is received from the guidance counselor and principal.

All tutors must be certified in the subject of tutoring and are required to follow the district’s planned course of study. A student may not be tutored by the teacher who administered the failing grade. Also, no student may begin a tutorial program for credit make-up, until the last class meeting of the subject failed.

All make-up courses for credit shall consist of a minimum of 30 hours of instruction for a semester course and 45 hours for a year course. Also, the student will be required to pass the department prepared final examination of the course to receive course credit. A maximum of two courses per school term will be permitted for make-up, until the last class meeting of the subject failed.

The recording of credits for make-up courses will be as follows: If a student passes summer school or a tutorial course, the assigned grade when awarded will be noted with the name of the institution or the name of the tutor.

A copy of this policy shall be given to all parents whose children are contemplating accredited make-up study.
