    When a representative of a law enforcement agency is conducting an investigation in which students may be involved, the following shall apply:


    1. No student will be released to police custody without a proper warrant, or written permission of the parent(s) or guardian(s), except in the event of a life-threatening emergency;


    1. Before interview of a student by a law enforcement officer, a parent or guardian shall be notified and shall be given the opportunity to consent to the interview of the student or to be present during the interview. If efforts to notify a parent or guardian are unsuccessful, the law enforcement officer shall determine if it is appropriate to interview the student in the absence of his/her parent or guardian. In all situations, a member of the school staff shall be present throughout the entire interview.
