Background

Former Superintendent, Dr. Thomas W. Holtzman, spearheaded the formation of the Hanna Education Foundation, a non-profit organization, in 1997. The Foundation was established by a steering committee of Susquehanna Township School District employees and community volunteers. The impetus for the Foundation was the District’s Strategic Plan and a $50,000 seed grant from Union Deposit Corporation.

Mission

We feel that our children are the future and that by enhancing their learning opportunities we might help them to become outstanding participants in society.

Purpose

The purpose of the Hanna Education Foundation is to generate funds to support a wide array of enrichment endeavors, which may include educational, musical, cultural, athletic and/or other related school activities that benefit the students of the district. These programs are run through the Foundation’s programming arm, the Hanna Institute. One distinct difference from programs that are offered by the School District is that Foundation programs may target specific student populations. Some programs are designed to target children with a particular need. This need may be help with homework, drama lessons for a child with promise but lacking the funds to pay for private lessons, or SAT classes for high school students that are in need of assistance. We work closely with the district’s teachers and counselors to find the children who are most in need. After these children are place in the programs, the programs are opened to the general school population. Through these targeted programs, we attempt to achieve a “level playing field” for all the district students. In addition to these targeted programs, there are many other programs that focus on enrichment and are open from day one to all district students.
