Important Update from the STSD Superintendent

 

 

​UPDATE from the Superintendent Regarding the
COVID-19 and School Closures

Dear Susquehanna Township School District Family,

As the state-mandated closure continues, we encourage families to continue to be proactive in reducing the risk of spreading COVID-19 by following the Governor's reccomendations to practice social distancing. Please continue to wash your hands often, sneeze or cough into a tissue, and stay home if you are sick.

Access to Buildings
On Monday, March 23, 2020, we will provide limited access to students who need to retrieve laptops from the high school. A very limited number of staff and building administrators will be onsite to assist from 5 pm – 6:30 pm. Staff will retrieve devices and deliver to students/parents in order to limit overall access to the building and to minimize possible exposure to other families. Please CLICK HERE to take a brief survey to help us prepare for students coming to the high school to collect their devices. The deadline to complete this survey will be Thursday, March 19th at 7 pm. Please complete a survey for each high school student in your household.

Assignments & State Testing
Today, we shared with staff that no new assignments or activity suggestions are to be given during the closure. We have asked teachers who have posted and distributed assignments in advance to let their students know these assignments do not need to be completed during the closure. This time may be used by students who would like to complete and submit missing assignments or review previously taught concepts. District and outside resources remain available for students to pursue independent learning.  

Students and staff in dual enrollment courses should follow the expectations set by the college or university.

At this time, PSSA and Keystone Exams are still slated to be given during the 2020 administration dates. The Advanced Placement (AP) exam remains as scheduled for schools that will be open on May 4–8 and 11–15, with late testing scheduled for May 20–22. We all value the continuity of learning for students and are developing a long-term plan to address student learning should the closure extend beyond March 27.  Teachers and school staff are available throughout the closure. Calendar Adjustments
The end of the marking period, parent conferences, kindergarten orientation, etc. will be adjusted accordingly and are highly dependent upon the duration of the school closure. Before we consider any impact the closure may have on end-of-year activities such as prom, field trips, concerts, graduation ceremonies, etc., we are seeking further guidance from the Department of Education and the Department of Health.

I realize the coming weeks will continue to present new challenges and we appreciate your continued support as we work diligently to do our part in keeping our students, families, and community members safe.
